What would be a good introduction for my project on plastic surgery?

I need about four to five sentences beginning my presentation. It's about plastic surgery, and the introduction is supposed to catch the audience and really want them to listen to what it is I am about to tell them. I would like some help please :]

  1. Well, it depends of what kind of viewpoint you are taking on plastic surgery. Why do people have cosmetic plastic surgery? Start off with some sentences about what most people don't like about themselves and how those feelings can lead to plastic surgery. When is it necessary to have plastic surgery? Start off with a graphic description of a condition (like a cleft palate) that requires plastic surgery. What is the most common form of plastic surgery? Start off with some graphic information or some statistical information about that specific surgery. How many plastic surgeries result in permanent deformity? Start your paper with some statistics and some graphic information to catch your audiences attention. What are the risks of plastic surgery? You may be able to generalize this, but you may also need to be more specific and select a certain type of plastic surgery (like a nose job).
  2. Very vague question, it depends on your perspective but here goes... you can begin with how our society places a huge amount of importance on appearance. The vast majority of our celebrities are highly atttactive, young and successful. Children see this on television and grow up with the belief that being beautiful is the key to happiness and success. There is a school of thought that links attractiveness with the darwinian concepts of evolution. There are close ties between beauty and maths. E.g. the devine ratio.... do a google search for it. Regardless of the culture, for years women have known about the effect of looking beautiful and have been applying makeup to their faces in an effort to attract the best possible mate - plastic surgery is merely an extreme form of makeover. Our behaviour is driven by instincts and fears that we don't always understand and plastic surgery exploits these insecurities by promising us the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Or you could start of with a brief medical case study of, say, a severely deformed child, and how plastic surgery has helped this child lead a normal life. The most interesting stories come from Africa.
