How soon should I get a consultation for plastic surgery?
Does anyone know more about the process of plastic surgery? I am able to get one maybe two procedures done by this Christmas. Should I be looking for a doctor now, or is it too soon? If I find one on the internet that has good qualifications, should I be making appointments for consultations?

- I would consult your doctor as soon as you are sure about doing it. They will refer you to several capable surgeons that specialize in it.
- Yes, schedule your consultations. You might not like the first couple of doctors. You'll need to find one that you are compeletly comfortable with so that may take some time. Then they might require you to gain or drop some weight depending on the procedure or intake more sodium or whatnot. Just start looking and doing your research. Good luck to you and your new look! :)
- you do not want to shop on the Internet. talk to your parents, counselor whoever, your husband if you are married. people have had terrible things happen to them from plastic surgery. You have to be very careful
- yes make the appointments as soon as possible because you will be really surprise at how many people have probably already have made appointments if you get the appointment now you probably won't get in until around October that's how busy they usually are so make appointments fast GOOD LUCK!!!
- yes its always best to look into these things make surethe doctor is lisenced and your comfterble with him
- So, you want to have a procedure or two done sometime before Christmas. Since you have time I think you should check out the reputations of doctors in your area. Then once you have two or three with good reputations go ahead and meet them. Then get references and call them. That should help you narrow it down to one doctor. You could definitely start looking into that now but I think you should wait until early May to actually meet with the three doctors.
- I've worked in the plastic surgery field for years so I hope my insight will help you. Generally speaking most surgeons who schedule a surgery more than 6 mo. in advance will require you to come back for a secondary consultation prior to your surgery. The reason for this is for them to check and see if you have had any changes to your overall health as well as any dramatic changes to your body. (weight gain or loss) Depending on the type of procedures you are looking at having done there are certain "understood" time frames surrounding them. For instance if you are within one year of a pregnancy or the end of breastfeeding most (good) surgeons will not do a breast aug on you as your body is still undergoing many physical and hormonal changes. Also, if you still have some weight to lose, don't expect plastic surgery to help you. Lose the weight first, then go in for tucking and sucking procedures. There is no easy way out of weight loss. It takes hard work and you would really regret it if you had an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or liposuction before losing the weight. I've seen this happen and it looks HORRIBLE. Never a good outcome. As far as finding a good surgeon. First thing I would do is talk to other people who have had work done. If they are pleased then chances are you may be too. But dont' stop there. Once you have a recommendation, Make sure the surgeon is board certified. Then go to the surgeons office. Ask to see before and after photos. Also (and this is a little sneaky) if you like the surgeon and everything seems to say that that's who you should go with...during your initial consulation with the surgeon discuss the procedures you are wanting done but throw an extra one in. Something that you know you don't need. If you have a beautiful nose suggest a rhinoplasty. The reason I say this is, the sign of a good surgeon, one who is looking out for your best interest and not just a buck will tell you NO. That's right, they will say, "you know what, maybe you should think about that one more, because there is really nothing wrong with your nose" They may end up agreeing to the surgery but only after you have provided a REAL reason for it being necessary to you. Also, avoid surgeons who offer a free consultation. That is always a red flag. You don't call a plumber to your house to discuss your plumbing and he not charge you. A good doctor deserves to be compensated for his time. One last thing...look for a surgeon who is board certified with the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as one who is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Actually www.plasticsurgery.org is a really good place to start looking for a surgeon in your area. I hope this helps.
